What Does C1275 Mean?
Solenoid relay #1 in the ABS/TCS hydraulic modulator has a short to battery voltage on its control circuit. This relay powers the solenoid valves that control brake pressure modulation. When shorted to Vbatt, the relay may be energized continuously or the EBCM cannot properly control it, disabling ABS and TCS functions entirely.
Safety Warning
This fault typically disables both ABS and TCS entirely. The vehicle can still be driven with conventional braking, but there is no anti-lock protection during hard braking and no traction control. Drive cautiously, maintain extra following distance, and avoid sudden stops. Repair as soon as possible — this is a significant safety concern, especially in wet or icy conditions.
Common Causes
35%
Wiring harness short to a power source (chafed wire contacting positive circuit)
25%
EBCM internal relay driver circuit shorted high
20%
Solenoid relay #1 internal failure (welded contacts)
15%
Corroded or water-damaged connector causing cross-circuit short
5%
Aftermarket wiring splice or accessory interfering with the relay circuit
Diagnostic Steps
1
With the ignition off, disconnect the EBCM connector and measure the relay control circuit wire — it should read 0V. If battery voltage is present, the short is in the harness between the relay and the module.
2
Inspect the relay control circuit wiring from the EBCM connector to the modulator for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted conduit, especially near heat sources or sharp metal edges.
3
Check the EBCM connector and modulator connector for signs of water intrusion, corrosion, or green deposits on pins that could create cross-circuit conductivity.
4
Measure solenoid relay #1 coil resistance — typically 20-60 ohms. Also check for continuity between the relay control pin and battery positive with the relay disconnected to isolate the short location.
5
If the harness is clean, reconnect and monitor the relay control circuit voltage with a scope while cycling the ignition — a voltage spike from the EBCM side indicates an internal module failure.
Estimated Repair Cost
$150 - $1,500
