What Does C1400 Mean?
The ABS/traction control module has detected a general electrical circuit failure in the right front (RF) traction control valve solenoid. This valve controls hydraulic brake pressure to the right front wheel during traction control events. The driver will see the traction control warning light illuminated, and traction control intervention will be disabled.
Common Causes
35%
Faulty RF traction control solenoid valve (internal short or open)
30%
Damaged or corroded wiring harness between ABS module and RF solenoid
20%
Poor connector contact at the ABS hydraulic control unit
15%
Faulty ABS/traction control module solenoid driver circuit
Diagnostic Steps
1
Access the ABS hydraulic control unit (HCU) and locate the RF traction control valve connector. Inspect for corrosion, bent pins, water intrusion, or damage.
2
Measure the resistance of the RF traction control solenoid between its two pins — typical specification is 3-6 ohms. An open reading (OL) or near-zero resistance indicates a failed solenoid.
3
Check for continuity and resistance in the wiring harness from the ABS module connector to the solenoid valve connector. Compare with the opposite side for reference.
4
Measure insulation resistance from each solenoid wire to chassis ground — should be greater than 10K ohms. Low readings indicate a short to ground in the harness.
5
If wiring and solenoid test within spec, suspect the ABS module's internal solenoid driver. Command the solenoid on/off with a scan tool and monitor current draw (should be 1-2A when energized).
Estimated Repair Cost
$200 - $1,200

The most common cause of C1400 (Traction Control Valve RF Circuit Failure) is: Faulty RF traction control solenoid valve (internal short or open)
Typical repair costs for C1400 range from $200 to $1,200, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
Traction control will not function on the right front wheel, which may allow wheel spin during acceleration on slippery surfaces. ABS braking may also be affected. The vehicle can be driven carefully, but avoid aggressive acceleration on wet or icy roads. Repair as soon as practical.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to C1400 to identify the root cause.
