What Does P0047 Mean?
The PCM has detected that the turbocharger/supercharger boost control 'A' circuit is reading a lower voltage or signal than expected. This indicates the solenoid control circuit is being pulled low, typically by a short to ground in the wiring or the solenoid itself. The driver will likely experience reduced turbo boost, diminished engine power, or limp mode activation.
Common Causes
35%
Short to ground in the boost control solenoid wiring harness (chafed or pinched wire)
30%
Internally shorted boost control solenoid coil
20%
Corroded or water-damaged electrical connector at the boost solenoid
15%
PCM boost control driver circuit failure (ground-side stuck low)
Diagnostic Steps
1
Disconnect the boost control solenoid connector and clear the code. With KOEO, check if the code returns — if it does, the short is in the wiring; if not, the solenoid is the issue.
2
With the solenoid disconnected, measure resistance of the solenoid coil (expect 10–30 ohms). Also check for continuity between each solenoid terminal and the solenoid body/ground — there should be no continuity (infinite resistance).
3
Using a multimeter, check the control wire from the solenoid connector back to the PCM for shorts to ground — disconnect the PCM connector and verify no continuity between the control wire and chassis ground.
4
Inspect the wiring harness for chafing, especially where it routes near the turbo, exhaust manifold, or any sharp metal edges. Look for melted insulation from heat exposure.
5
If wiring and solenoid test good, check for proper voltage on the power supply side of the solenoid connector (battery voltage with KOEO) to rule out a supply-side issue.

The most common cause of P0047 (Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control "A" Circuit Low) is: Short to ground in the boost control solenoid wiring harness (chafed or pinched wire)
Typical repair costs for P0047 range from $100 to $500, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
Generally safe for limited driving. The vehicle will likely be in a reduced-power limp mode with limited or no boost. Avoid situations requiring full power such as highway merging or towing. Schedule repair soon to restore normal engine performance.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to P0047 to identify the root cause.
