What Does P00AD Mean?
The PCM has detected a high-voltage condition on the intake air temperature sensor 1 circuit for bank 2. High voltage with an NTC thermistor indicates very high resistance — the sensor is likely open-circuit, disconnected, or has a broken wire. The PCM interprets this as an impossibly low air temperature and will substitute a default value. The driver may notice the check engine light and slightly altered engine performance.
Common Causes
30%
Open-circuit intake air temperature sensor 1 on bank 2
30%
Disconnected or improperly seated sensor connector
20%
Broken wire in the signal or ground circuit
15%
Severely corroded connector pins creating an open circuit
5%
Signal wire shorted to 5V reference line
Diagnostic Steps
1
Verify the IAT sensor 1 bank 2 PID reads -40°F or an implausibly low temperature — this confirms the high-circuit (open) condition.
2
Physically inspect the sensor connector on bank 2 — ensure it is plugged in, the locking mechanism is secure, and no wires are pulled out of the connector body.
3
Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance across the terminals — typical range is 2–3 kΩ at 68°F/20°C. An OL (infinite) reading means the sensor is open.
4
If the sensor reads within spec, jumper a 2.2 kΩ resistor across the harness-side connector pins — if the PID shows a reasonable temperature, the sensor was faulty or the connection was bad.
5
Perform continuity tests on the signal and ground wires from the sensor connector back to the PCM connector to locate any breaks.
Estimated Repair Cost

The most common cause of P00AD (Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High Bank 2) is: Open-circuit intake air temperature sensor 1 on bank 2
Typical repair costs for P00AD range from $40 to $200, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
Safe to drive. The PCM uses a default value for the missing sensor data. Engine performance may be slightly compromised and fuel economy reduced. Repair at your convenience.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to P00AD to identify the root cause.
