What Does C1419 Mean?
The suspension control module has detected an open circuit in the right front (RF) electronically controlled damper circuit. There is a break in the electrical path to the RF damper actuator, so the module cannot energize or control the shock absorber. The adaptive ride system will default the RF damper to a fixed setting and illuminate the warning light.
Common Causes
40%
Broken or disconnected wire in the RF damper circuit harness
25%
Corroded or backed-out terminal pins in the damper connector
20%
Internally open RF damper actuator coil
15%
Suspension module connector damage causing loss of contact
Diagnostic Steps
1
Disconnect the suspension module connector and measure the RF damper circuit resistance at the harness pins — should read 1-5 ohms if the path to the damper is complete.
2
If open (OL), disconnect the RF damper actuator at the shock absorber. Measure the actuator coil directly — OL means the coil is burned open and the damper actuator must be replaced.
3
If the actuator is good, perform wire-by-wire continuity testing from the module connector to the damper connector to locate the break.
4
Inspect the harness carefully where it transitions from the body to the suspension — this flex point is the most common location for wire fatigue and breakage due to constant suspension movement.
5
Check the damper connector for corrosion and terminal pin condition. Wheel well connectors are highly susceptible to road salt and moisture damage.
Estimated Repair Cost

The most common cause of C1419 (Damper RF Circuit Open) is: Broken or disconnected wire in the RF damper circuit harness
Typical repair costs for C1419 range from $100 to $900, depending on the vehicle, location, and whether you do it yourself or go to a shop.
The RF damper operates in a fixed default mode. Ride comfort will be degraded, and handling may feel unbalanced. Safe to drive for normal use. Avoid aggressive cornering until the adaptive suspension is fully functional again.
Start by connecting an OBD2 scanner to read the code and any freeze frame data. Then follow the diagnostic steps specific to C1419 to identify the root cause.
